Cowboys Escape Giants in Wild NFC East Thriller

September 15, 2025

This NFC East matchup had two teams who could not afford to fall to 0-2 after dropping their opening week game. Dallas, perhaps, had the most to lose as they’re seemingly in the middle of a championship window (at least according to Jerry), despite trading away their star pass rusher before the start of the season. The Giants aren’t quite ready to make playoff pushes just yet, but the young pieces are certainly there. No doubt, they have the potential to be a dangerous group in the very near future.

Save for one heck of a poor throw in double OT, Russell Wilson had himself a heck of a game after a terrible opener against Washington. He definitely had more in the tank than what he showed, but I’m not sure anyone thought he’d throw for 450 yards and 3 touchdowns. The lone interception he threw would end up costing New York the game, however, everything outside of that decision was nearly flawless football. Malik Nabers and Wan’Dale Robinson combined for 309 of those yards through the air and gave the Dallas secondary fits all afternoon. Rookie running back Cam Skattebo also got involved on the ground and punched in his first NFL touchdown.

On the other side, Dallas struggled to get going offensively and didn’t get on the scoreboard until the second quarter. Dak and Lamb seemed a bit off, but it could have been due to the defense keying in on CeeDee like most defenses will. Prescott then struggled to find the next man up – distributing targets to Pickens, Turpin, Tolbert and a handful of tight ends. Fortunately, Javonte Williams was able to produce once again as he came up just three yards short of a 100 yard effort but it did give the offense time to get the passing game rolling. Lamb disappeared for much of the second half, but came back into focus late in the 4th as the two teams were trading blows and trying to take control of the game. When the team needed it most, Dak was able to lead the team into position for a game tying field goal attempt from Brandon Aubrey. The 64 (!) yarder was good, capping off an NFL record tying – 4th quarter that had six lead changes, and off to OT they went.

Quite honestly, the teams looked gassed through both OT periods, exchanging possessions twice before the game was finally over. After stopping the Dallas offense for the second time, Russell Wilson inexplicably bombed it deep where only a Cowboy defender could get it resulting in the game-ending turnover. That would be all the Cowboys needed as they’d drive a little bit further and kick a field goal to win it.

These two typically battle it out no matter how good or bad either team is and Sunday was no different. New York will now have to go home and figure out how to get things right before their seasons begins to truly spiral. As for Dallas, they survive another week, but it took a Hulk level effort to earn a win against a team many believe will hold a top 5 draft pick come April.
