Week 17
All the week 17 names you need to know. Let’s keep it short and sweet!
Quarterbacks
Cam Ward, 18% rostered, Titans
Ward is still available in most leagues despite having turned the corner three weeks ago. He’s thrown for two touchdowns in the last three weeks while turning the ball over once and has become increasingly more efficient with his throws. While others may chase the Chiefs QB or another desperation play, Ward may be one of the best options still available.
Kirk Cousins, 38% rostered, Falcons
Kirko Chains came through yet again. It isn’t always pretty but he’s been getting the job done as of late. Better yet, he found his big target Kyle Pitts and has no problem checking it down to Bijan. Though the season hasn’t gone the way they planned, they still have everything to play for since they don’t own their own first round pick in the draft.
Tyler Shough, 36% rostered, Saints
Shough has no business being under 50% owned but he may still be available if you’re in need of another option at quarterback to secure your championship. He has been playing lights out for week and getting it done both on the ground and through the air. He’ll be coming off his first career 300 yard game when the Saints take on Tennessee next week.
Malik Willis, 2% rostered, Packers
Jordan Love exited against the Bears with a concussion and Malik Willis filled in beautifully looking the best he ever has. He completed 9/11 passes but also added 44 yards on the ground. It was a huge moment where a backup QB could have folded but he gave his team the opportunity to stay in the game and win it. Should Love miss next week, Malik will be stepping into a starting role where the Packers need to keep winning to stay in the fight. It does need to be noted that Willis sustained a shoulder injury and is currently listed as questionable for next week.
Running Backs
Raheim Sanders, 1% rostered, Browns
Sanders filled in earlier in the season when Judkins was out/unsigned. With Dylan Sampson out this week, Sanders was elevated from the practice squad and assumed a majority workload once Judkins went down. It’s very possible that Sampson will miss next week as well after not logging a single practice this week. If that’s the case, Sanders will be a full go on Championship weekend.
Dylan Sampson, 13% rostered, Browns
Most of the same we said about Sanders can be said here. However, if Sampson is active next week, he will more than likely take at least a 50% split while taking all passing down work. If given a choice, go with Sampson. The Browns themselves chose Sampson before.
Blake Corum, 69% rostered, Rams
Corum still has surprisingly low ownership on most platforms and is worth a look to see if he’s available. He’s been working in more and more over the last few weeks and has been extremely productive posting 5 scores over his last 4 games. A date in Atlanta up next is almost the perfect way to end a fantasy season on a high note.
Tyjae Spears, 51% rostered, Titans
He’s somewhat of a premier backup so he may be claimed in most leagues. However, the Titans run game has been down in a bad way this season so a frustrated owner may have dropped him by now. The Titans ground game has finally taken off the last three weeks and the success has now also reached Spears. He received his biggest workload on the year but was especially active in the passing attack. A decent matchup awaits in week 17 with New Orleans.
Wide Receivers
Tre Harris, 5% rostered, Chargers
The second round pick has been carving a bit of a role out for himself as the season has come along. Quinton Johnston has been back to spreading the field, opening up the intermediate game for Harris. Tre did exit for a period of time with a jammed/dislocated finger. While he returned to the game, he only recorded one more catch the rest of the way. He’s one to watch as this game was setting up to be the clear breakout prior to the finger injury.
Olamide Zaccheaus, 4% rostered, Bears
With Rome Odunze and Luther Burden sidelined, Zaccheaus operated as the Chicago WR2 and received his most targets (and yards) since week 10. While it didn’t exactly translate to the most productive day, the opportunity will almost certainly be there again should the other receivers sit out once again.
Parker Washington, 45% rostered, Jaguars
Washington has had flashes throughout the season but came through with his biggest game of the season in week 16. Six grabs for 145 yards and a score will get the attention of many. It’s tough to say if he can fully be trusted given his disappearing act that can occur, but next week’s game against a struggling Colts defense may just be what he needs to string multiple good performances together.
Tight Ends
Taysom Hill, 10% rostered, Saints
While many were grabbing Audric Estime, it was Hill who showed up and led the team in carries. What separates Hill from the other options is that he’s a reliable target for them in the passing game as well. You won’t feel great starting him, but if you must start a New Orleans “running back”, it’s Taysom Hill.
Juwan Johnson, 69% rostered, Saints
This goes along with the “be careful” mindset when looking to start someone on the Saints. Johnson has been a little more involved as of late and had a big game against the Jets with the lowly Titans up next. You want to be careful because Tayson Hill is always present and can play nearly any position on the field. However, Tyler Shough has this passing game looking better and better each week, and if you’re desperate, Johnson won’t give you a goose egg.
