The Maye Day Movement Begins in New England
October 28, 2025
It’s too early to hear these calls again. The New England Patriots fans are already chanting “MVP” for rookie quarterback Drake Maye. We always used to hear these chants when Tom Brady was under center. After nearly a five-year rebuild, it seems like the Patriots have found their franchise quarterback. It just doesn’t seem fair.
Maye had three passing touchdowns to one interception, going 18-of-24 for 282 yards and rushing for 70 yards in a 32-12 victory over the Cleveland Browns.
Despite the heroic efforts of Browns defensive wrecking ball Myles Garrett, who had five sacks on the day, the Browns continue to struggle, no matter who is under center.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has publicly stated that Dillon Gabriel will be the starting quarterback moving forward. However, the Browns’ struggles only allow for louder calls to start fifth round pick Shedeur Sanders. Maybe the calls are warranted. Maybe they aren’t. But having picked two rookie quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL draft, the Browns have put themselves in a tough situation: how long do you stick with your third round rookie before benching him and putting your fifth round rookie in? The Browns have found another way to shoot themselves in the foot, but they loaded the gun themselves.
