Flying High Again: Penix, Bijan Power Falcons Past Commanders
September 29, 2025
Michael Penix bounced back in a big way after getting benched last week in a humiliating 30-0 shutout loss to divisional rival Carolina. In a showdown against another former Falcons quarterback, Marcus Mariota, Penix shined just enough to get the job done.
The clear winning formula for this Falcon offense is to get the ball to Bijan. If you’re able to find creative ways to get him touches, good things happen. He proved this by finishing the day with 181 total yards and a touchdown. Penix was also able to feed London 10 targets so he could eclipse the 100 yard mark and sent 5 more to Kyle Pitts who caught the other touchdown pass thrown on the day.
The other factor that so frequently gets forgotten is how fantastic the second runner Tyler Allgeier is when he gets rolling. Not only is he a reliable back to provide a nice breather for Bijan, but the kid runs his heart out shedding arm tackles and running defenders over. Allgeier had a highlight reel run at the end of the third quarter extending the Falcon lead to 31-16 where he refused to go down and it may have been the hardest 15 yards he’s ever earned.
Washington put together an 11 point 4th quarter in an attempt to get the comeback victory but the Falcon defense shut down those plans and helped improve the team record to 2-2. The victory also comes on a day where the division leader Buccaneers took a loss.. Penix would finish the day with his second 300 yard passing game on the young season. Atlanta will head into a week 5 bye and use the extra week to prepare for a big game against the Bills on the other side.
