Motor City Mauling: Lions Roast the Bengals and Chase Plays Defense

October 6, 2025

The Detroit Lions showed out in a homecoming game for David Montgomery as they traveled to Cincinnati as heavy favorites against the sinking Bengals. Montgomery didn’t waste the opportunity to show out in front of friends and family as he became the first Detroit Lion (non-QB) since 1958 to both throw and rush for a touchdown in a game.

On the other side, it was ugly early. I mean, ugly. One of the major stats trending at half time was that Ja’Marr Chase had 4 catches and 3 tackles in the game. Yes, Chase was responsible for tracking down the defender after 3 first half turn overs. They couldn’t do anything right and found themselves down 14-3 at half. Which, truthfully, isn’t that bad for how they had looked up to that point.

The third quarter immediately pushed this one to blowout territory as Detroit extended their lead 28-3. With the game well out of reach, the Bengals finally seemed to relax a bit and suddenly Browning was completing passes and pushing the ball downfield. He connected with Ja’Marr Chase in the endzone for a gorgeous toe tapper that, while fun, didn’t do much to make this any more competitive of a game. Not long after, Browning would connect again with Chase for a 64 yard bomb. Now, that one made us all remember the beautiful deep passes that we grew used to seeing during the 2024 triple crown season. Nothing like a Burrow deep bomb with Chase running under it, grabbing it for the score.

The Lions quickly clamped down and safetied Jake Browning in the endzone to eliminate any further ideas of a comeback. While the Bengals ultimately fell 37-24, they learned a little bit more of what they can do offensively. Fans saw the Cincy fireworks via the big play that we just haven’t seen often enough this season. We know Jake Browning is good enough to move this offense, we’ve seen it before. Here’s to hoping these few glimpses we saw in week 6 turn into something more consistent – I know fantasy managers of any Bengals skill players are hoping so.
