Mahomes Magic Hour
October 28, 2025
Excitement returned to the Commander fan base when it was announced that Scary Terry would be returning alongside the other injured returner Deebo Samuel. With Jayden Daniels hitting the bench in this one due to his hamstring, Mariota would be given control of the offense over the red hot Chiefs. Not many outside of their locker room were giving them a chance in this one, but should they have?
No, the answer is a definitive 28-7 N-O. But they did play hard. That Commanders defense was all over Mahomes and the Chiefs in the first 30 minutes of action. In fact, going into the break, Mahomes was only 8-15 for less than 100 yards and 2 interceptions. The Washington defense was getting AFTER them. Marshon Lattimore had an incredible take away on a lazy Mahomes pass to Hollywood Brown. Kansas City was driving and almost certainly would’ve scored until Lattimore decided it was time for the defense to make a play.
Unfortunately, Mariota was struggling. That’s somewhat to be expected, the Chiefs are playing lights out on both sides of the ball this season. But the hope was the return of Terry and Deebo would help more than it did. Well, the interception off Deebo’s hands put them in an early hole and they struggled to get back the rest of the way. There was one beautiful moment though. Go look up the catch Terry had in the endzone, you have to. The body control and awareness to keep his body in bounds was positively elite.
As the second half began, the Chief take over began, and boy was Troy Aikman enjoying it. Dropping comments like, “Mahomes has the best field awareness of any quarterback he’s ever seen.” and more throughout the night. He was giving his best Collinsworth impression during the week of Halloween. The thing is, Mahomes actually did completely flip a switch. If he wasn’t finding Travis Kelce, he was finding Rashee Rice – who got in the endzone for the second time in as many games by the way. The Travis Kelce touchdown reception tied a Chiefs franchise record with Priest Holmes for the most regular season touchdowns with 83! Priest Holmes is a legend in Kansas City, and Travis gave Holmes the respect he deserves in his post game talk with SVP; speaking of how honored he is to be in the same company as a great like Priest.
If it wasn’t one of Kelce or Rice, it was Worthy blowing by some poor Commander defender. They went on a 21-0 run in the second half and flexed exactly why they should be favorites this season. Patrick Mahomes is hunting his third MVP and bringing all of Chiefs Kingdom with him. Something is different about this group. They’re more focused, somehow hungrier than ever, and each week they’re taking it out on their opponent.
