Kingdom Restored: Mahomes and Chiefs Crush Lions in Statement Win
October 14, 2025
Kansas City came into week 6 fresh off a disappointing road loss to Jacksonville dropping their record to 2-3. The gritty Lions were faced with the task of dropping the Chiefs to 2-4, which for a Mahomes led team, seems unthinkable. It was a matchup that very well could have been a Super Bowl preview, so how did these two fare?
I can’t decide which side of the ball to talk about first for Kansas City. Defensively, they made Jared Goff uncomfortable all night while limiting the Detroit run game. Detroit wants to get ahead, and run that football down your throat while controlling the time of possession. The Chiefs did a fantastic job creating 3 and outs and giving the ball back to their offense which slowly increased their lead into the second half. Detroit started off with a great opening drive that went for nearly ten minutes and was almost capped off by a David Montgomery touchdown pass to Jared Goff. However, an illegal motion penalty on Goff wiped that score off the board.
Meanwhile, all Patrick Mahomes did was continue his long line of 2025 dominant performances, completing 22/30 for 257 and 3 touchdowns and running an additional touchdown in on the ground. He continued to spread the ball around to eight different targets and the Lions had absolutely no answer for it. As the offense stacked points, the Lions defense slowly unraveled committing mental errors and late hits.

Detroit was forced to pass the ball in order to come back and just couldn’t execute the plays in order to get back into the game. Kansas City closed it out and improved to 3-3 with a 30-17 victory. Though the game was finished, Detroit would take a second L just a few minutes after the clock struck triple 0’s. Lions defensive back Brian Branch shoved Juju Smith-Schuster to the ground creating a whole scene and scuffle during the end of game hand shakes.
Brian Branch would later receive a one week suspension from the NFL.
With all the injuries going on around the league, Kansas City seems well positioned to continue their ascent to the top of the standings. Keep in mind, all of this is being done without Rashee Rice who is eligible to return in week 7. Sunday night was a great start and it was a reminder of how lethal this offense can be when all cylinders are clicking.
