Jets Offense Experiencing Turbulence

August 18, 2025

1/5, 4 yards, that’s it. That’s all starting quarterback Justin Fields and the New York Jets offense could muster through the air on Saturday night against the Giants. Fields looked flustered and was under pressure for most of the time he was on the field, needing to jump and throw a pass around a defender in order to just get the ball out before taking a sack. There were also shades of his Bears days when he would look down and immediately try to Houdini his way out of the pocket for yards on the ground. While he can make spectacular plays with his legs, it won’t equate to long-term success for the team if they have their sights set on a return to the post season. His lone target to Garrett Wilson was slightly behind when leading him would have picked up the first down and kept the drive alive. Given that we’re halfway through August, we need to start seeing some of what the Jets have been practicing transition into game situations. It unfortunately isn’t happening yet for the passing game, how about the running game?

On the ground, they had slightly more success with a near even split between Breece Hall and Braelon Allen. Allen did produce 8 more yards on the same amount of carries while looking more explosive and decisive with the ball. Breece seems to continue to have the issue of just simply not seeing the opening. Almost like he doesn’t trust that it will stay open long enough for him to cut back into it, or he just bangs up into the back of his line hoping something will break. After the year he had last year, this just isn’t going to work. He did have a few nice runs on Saturday where he broke off 4 or more yards, which was encouraging, but we just don’t see it occur frequently enough. We’re just about at the point where we need to; because Allen can sense the blood in the water and is absolutely coming for more playing time. The Goal Line Grind are big believers in Breece. I know what we saw when we came out of Iowa State, I know what we saw prior to the ACL tear, we just need to get back to THAT version of Hall. An unfortunate reality, though, is that sometimes that athlete just doesn’t come all the way back.

Whether you’re invested in this Jets team or not, if we’re going to be forced to watch the Jets in two primetime games this season, we’d hope they can somehow look like an NFL offense. Have you seen the Jets the last few years? It’s some of the most dysfunctional football you can find on television. However, at this stage of training camp, and how they performed Saturday night, I’m just not sure it’s going to come together in time for September.
