It’s Just the Beginning in Tennessee
September 9, 2025
2025 No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward had a tough test in his debut for the Tennessee Titans, when he faced the potential number one defense in the Denver Broncos in Week 1.
Now, every rookie will have their struggles, and Ward certainly had his fair share, as he was sacked six times for 50 yards, including a strip-sack to end the game. Ward did lead his team to four scoring possessions, but they all were field goals in a 20-12 loss.
However, Ward did have his share of successes. The Broncos’ ferocious pass rush was busy all game, but Ward showed his elusive nature and improvisational skills that made him the first overall pick. On the day, Ward was 12-of-28 passing for 112 yards and the aforementioned fumble. On the game’s final drive, Ward had the chance to potentially go down and tie the game, but his receivers dropped several passes up the seam, for huge gains. The weapons around Ward were having issues, including the offensive line and receivers.
The Titans look to improve on their 0-1 record against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2 in Nashville. Ward’s debut was rocky, but there are significant reasons for hope on the horizon for Tennessee. With a few more added weapons either at the trade deadline or in next year’s NFL draft and free agency, the Titans may be a force to be reckoned with.
