Waddle hasn’t been waddling much.
Jaylen Waddle was drafted to the Dolphins in 2021 and set the team on fire…waddling into the endzone six times his rookie season. Unfortunately, each season following, he saw less and less targets as time went on. The most significant drop happened in 2022 when Tyreek Hill joined the Fins. Even Mike McDaniel admitted to force feeding Cheetah the ball, leaving Waddle with well under 100 targets each season (seeing 104 his rookie year). Thankfully, things seem to be improving for my favorite Dolphin (I hope!) as Hill’s off-field drama have fans and front office alike over it. Last week against the Bills, Waddle finally saw 5 receptions and even managed to sneak in a TD. Needless to say, it was refreshing to see the waddle once again.
Daniel Jones could be HIM.
This makes me sick to my stomach to say, but I may have been wrong about Daniel Jones and maybe he wasn’t the problem for the Giants (as they’re still a mess…). During 2024 in New York, Jones saw a measly 63.3% passing rating, which has already shown significant improvement since his trade to Indiana. We used to make jokes about Danny Dimes and the alleged dime ball he threw, but I’ll be damned, he’s proving us wrong. Just last week alone he put up impressive stats against the Titans with a completion rate of 72% and a TD of his own (three on the season so far…compared to two in 2023). I’m not sure if it’s just the change of scenery, the coaching style, or what, but Daniel Jones has proved me wrong.
Derrick Henry is losing his touch.
Derrick Henry has always been known for his size and speed, but now he’s becoming well known for his adult-sized temper tantrums. So far in his career, Henry has fumbled an insignificant about of times…twenty-three to be exact. This season, however, we’re seeing a different side to the goliath. He’s managed to fumble once in every single game…which is clearly so unlike him. While fumbles happen, it’s definitely noteworthy at the frequency and consistency this seems to be occurring. At this rate, Henry will double his stat by the end of the season. The last thing we want is to see the number of rushing yards drop as the mistakes climb. I’ve always been impressed with the performance on the field, but as of this season, all I can focus on is the errors of his game play and how he’s handling. I’d expect better out of the veteran.
Zac Taylor should have been fired years ago.
I know, another Bengals take, but they’re just so easy. Last week I commented on Joe Burrow and how he just isn’t as talented as he used to be….despite what the majority of the media thinks. The reoccurring losses aren’t just on Joe Cool, however, as shown last week when Jake Browning was thrown into the mess Joe left behind. What we need to take a look at right now isn’t the quarterback situation, it’s not the o-line, it’s not the lack of defense (aside from Trey). It’s Zac. For whatever reason, he insists on keeping play calling on his agenda and to put it nicely: he’s just not good at it. The Bengals are quickly becoming known for their 3-and-out drives and it’s not pretty. Now I’m not a head coach, nor do I have any NFL experience, however as a former youth flag coach, I can attest that running it up the middle on first down every single time becomes predictable. Not trusting any of your QBs to throw the ball becomes predictable. Relying on field goals to win the game just isn’t it. Sorry Bengals fan (it’s me, I’m the Bengals fan), but if you want to win, and win pretty, your boy Zac has to go.
Russ is cooked.
I’m sure you’re aware by now that Jaxson Dart will be starting against the Chargers this week…and if not, well you are now. Russell Wilson threw two interceptions, zero touchdowns (the only touchdown was a 13-yd run by Cam Skattebo), and barely made it across mid-field. against the Chiefs I had to adjust my television settings to be sure it wasn’t the Bengals I was watching. Russ stepped out onto the field Sunday night and well, it went a little something like this: 4th down incomplete, punt, interception, run touchdown, interception, punt field goal, 4th down incompletion, 4th down 2-yd run. That’s it, that was the entirety of the Giants offense. Now, they did slip Dart into a couple of plays and quite honestly, that was the only time they managed to gain any momentum…just for Daboll to pull him right back out. I’m not sure that he’s quite ready for the big show just yet (maybe give Jameis a shot), but I think we can all come to terms with the fact the Russell Wilson is not HIM.
