Arch Manning isn’t living up to the hype.
With such a big name, of course there were high expectations for Arch Manning to step out in Columbus and show them who’s boss. Unfortunately, he fell quite short (17 of 30 passes for 170 yards; 1 TD, 1 interception) and it leaves us wondering if he has what it takes to live up to the pressure associated with the Manning surname. Or will he end up being a complete bust?
Jack Layne is kind of an incredible teammate.
New Mexico took a beating from Michigan this weekend, but honestly, that gave everyone a chance to see what kind of teammate quarterback Jack Layne is. While struggling to get ahead, Jack didn’t hesitate for a moment to keep his guys in check, refocus, and do what they could to claw their way back. Even though it wasn’t quite enough to take the lead, he was able to close the game out at 17-34.
Bryce Underwood has wild arm strength.
Bryce Underwood had a ton of weight on his shoulders when he slipped into the Maize and Blue this weekend. Unlike Arch Manning, he definitely lived up to everyone’s expectations. Not only did Bryce display how well he can read the field, he had the opportunity to show off one heck of an arm with 251 passing yards, slinging the pigskin left and right. Michigan just may have found their next man up after struggling last year with JJ McCarthy’s departure.
Coach Prime lost his touch when his kids left.
Last season was his last with Shilo and Shedeur (and Travis!) and it leaves us wondering: did the boys carry Dion or is he simply suffering from empty nest syndrome? Colorado only ended up losing in a one score game, but they still fell short where it mattered. Clock management, total yards, yards per play…all terrible stats. Many were questioning Dion’s play calling even. Is this a week one fluke or will he struggle without the Sanders duo and Travis Hunter all season?
Alabama hasn’t been the same since Saban retired.
This weekend, Alabama suffered their first week one loss since 2011. Yikes. One could say they haven’t been the same since Nick Saban decided to hang up his headset. The Crimson Tide lost to Florida State…who went 2-10 last year. Is DeBoer going to continue leading his team to loss after loss, or unranked teams no less, or will this be the season they finally find their groove?
