Puka is the new era Megatron.

Puka Nacua made history against the 49ers this week, surpassing 3,000 yards by his 33rd career game. This impressive stat came after three catches for 24 yards in just the first quarter alone. He’s tied with Jetta’s as the second fastest to hit this record, only falling behind Odell Beckham Jr.. But it goes deeper than that. Think back to the mid 2000s…the Detroit Lions are facing yet another losing season with Matt Stafford at QB and a mangled Calvin Johnson catching his bombs. Although Megatron had a relatively early retirement, he was making moves out on the field. And so is Puka. Listen, I’ve never been overly impressed with Stafford. I think he throws the ball way too hard, way too chaotically, and his current receivers are in the same boat to end up with an early retirement like Megatron. However, he also has the receivers to bail him out time and time again, such as Puka Nacua. Not only is the young gun on target to break record after record, he clearly showcases ample chemistry with his QB, just like Calvin did. Let’s just hope his hands can take all of the bombs coming his way.

Jags are making a major franchise comeback.

If you don’t agree, you clearly weren’t paying attention to MNF against the Chiefs. Holy cow, what a game! Of course, Jacksonville was sloppy at times, just like their opponent, however they came in clutch when it mattered. Travis Hunter? Hello 44-yard catch, a pivotal moment in the game. Devin Lloyd? Don’t mind if he scores a RECORD BREAKING 99-yard interception for a touchdown. No biggie, right? Except the Jags have quite literally never played with this momentum (Lloyd broke history for the longest defensive score in franchise history). Maybe Trevor Lawrence is the QB they’ve needed and he’s finally finding his stride. Maybe he just connects with the hot, young talent they delivered him this season. Whatever it is, it is WORKING.

We need to eliminate offsetting penalties.

One of my biggest complaints with the NFL is the rule of offsetting penalties. Why does this even exist? It feels like pretty much anything goes in this regard. Get sucker punched by your opponent? Might well do it back because nothing matters anymore. If we’re going to penalize teams for making mistakes, then do it. It shouldn’t matter if both teams should suffer their consequences. I haven’t been able to find a stat on it, but I find it hard to believe that some of these games aren’t affected by offsetting penalties. Sure, they essentially get a redo, but what if we handled these differently? I don’t have an answer as to what that might be, but offsetting isn’t it. Let’s stop altering the momentum of the game, potentially the outcome, and come up with a better plan. Otherwise, sure, you break my leg, I’ll break yours back (insert sneaky emoji here).

Baker Mayfield should be the next MVP.

I’ve always loved Baker and always felt like he deserved better. Poor kid was drafted to Cleveland and then completely dicked over when they decide to replace him for pocket change, then couldn’t get anything going in Carolina (that team was cheeks), then played for the Rams for all of five minutes before finding his home in Tampa Bay. It was starting to get frustrating watching him bounce around like a sugar-filled child at a birthday party. But break it down and what you see is a man that deserves to be MVP once and for all. If nothing else, just look at the win he brought LA after learning the playbook on the plane. Now he’s leading the Bucs to win after win (with one unsurprising loss to the Eagles), completing a high number of passes to his elite WRs, and making big money moves when the game is on the line. Baker is out there giving us all he can and we just aren’t appreciating him enough. LFB.

Drake Maye is the future of New England.

Ever since Tom Brady’s departure from New England in 2020, the Patriots struggled. Bill Belichick was outted (clearly Brady was carrying the team) and the team was losing more than they were winning. After the dynasty Brady built, it put a bad taste in the mouth of NE. They tried leading with Mac Jones, then Bailey Zappe, neither of which were a good fit. All the while, you had key playmakers like Jakobi Meyers making crucial errors, just forbidding the team the wins they craved. Then you slide Drake Maye in at QB and things seem to change. Drake is out there making moves with 1,261-yards on the season and only 2 interceptions so far. Sure, he has two losses against prime defenses, but did you watch that Bills game? I think that’s the only performance you need to see to know that New England probably have their franchise QB again.

Writing without plot twists or murder isn’t exactly her forte, but she’s made an exception for football — mostly so she can talk trash.
