In Joe Flacco we trust..

In typical Burrow fashion, early on in the season he’s forced to sit out with yet another injury. Cincy tried relying on Jake Browning to carry them through until Burrow’s suggested December return, but that just wasn’t working out. The season took an unexpected turn and enter: Joe Flacco. Back in 2023 when he played for the Cleveland Browns, Flacco earned the Comeback Player of the Year award and this past week, he’s reminding us why. At 40 years young, he’s still killing it. Joe Senior, as I like to call him, brings a new air to the team. He’s actually utilizing talent the Bengals should have been all along. Why? Well, he admitted to not understanding some of Zac Taylor’s plays, so he improvised. And it WORKED. Clearly proving my point a few weeks ago that Zac should not be calling plays. Flacco comes in with experience, seniority, miles on the tires, notches in the bedpost…whatever you want to call it, and he’s giving us the tiniest taste of the 2022 Bengals. Something Joe Cool has ripped from us these past few years. He can’t stay healthy, he’s panicking in the pocket. relies on running it up the middle (and resulting in a quick three-and-out every time). Cincy needs to ride this season out with Joe Senior, even if his Junior returns in December.

Cam Skattebo should be the ROTY.

Each week, Cam Skattebo is reminding us of his performance from the 2025 Peach Bowl and why the New York Giants drafted him at 105. He’s a freak of nature in the best way: an absolute force o the field, quick, agile, he’s not afraid to shove his way through. Something so many running backs struggle with out of fear of injury. But Cam? He’s fearless and out there to make a statement. Undeniably, he is (and not just because he’s carrying my fantasy team). So far on the season, he’s raking in just under 400 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns, a total of 23 receptions. Not too shabby for a rookie heading into the season’s halfway point. Clearly, he’s a huge component the Giants offense has been missing. He and Brian Daboll are clicking; he and Jaxson Dart have immense chemistry. Together, they are turning the entire dynamic of the team around, doing what neither Daniel Jones, nor Russell Wilson could.

Justin Herbert doesn’t get enough love.

I get it, the LA Chargers aren’t exactly the sexiest team. Their head coach is goofy (love Jim Harbaugh!), they seem to lack notable players, and the Rams are constantly overshadowing them. But Justin? He deserves more acknowledgement for what he does. In my opinion, Herbie is the Josh Allen of the West. He has the arm strength, leg power, ability to read the field…etc. Even ESPN currently ranks him the 10th quarterback in the league right now. He’s putting up admirable numbers, typically completing well over 60% of his passes, although does struggle with the occasional interception. But so is Mr. MVP. The Chargers are sitting at 4-3, just behind the freaking Denver Broncos (who have a few wins based on pure luck….opponents missing FGs). Justin has what it takes to take the team places and he is one tough cookie. Keep in mind, that in recent seasons, the guy is playing through injuries when most quarterbacks would call it and sit on the sideline (hello broken ribs of 2022). Now, should he be playing through these injuries? Probably not, but my point is, Justin Herbert needs more recognition. Bolt up!

The Bills are losing momentum…fast.

This pains me to say, Bills Mafia, but Buffalo feels like they’re going down hill. After that brutal loss to the Falcons (I’m still crying internally over that one), they just can’t seem to get a grip. We have Josh throwing multiple interceptions, getting sacked numerous times in a single game…these stats just aren’t like him. Now, if you ask Sean McDermott, he’ll pin the downward spiral on the fact that the Bills are missing numerous players to injuries. Yes, but so are several other teams across the league and they manage to figure it out. Perhaps they just lack depth and don’t have the right players in place to step up when needed. Of course, that’s something they’ll have to figure out during the off-season and hopefully fix come draft time. For now? Eh, they need to figure some other things out. They brought James Cook back, use him. They have youth and talent in Keon Coleman. Use him. Dalton Kincaid is expected to return this week, so hopefully that will help their TE slot (sorry, but I don’t think Dawson Knox has IT). But on the other side of the ball? The defense just can’t seem to get the pressure going and they’re letting their opponents run circles around them. Sometimes literally. They are still the favorite to take the AFC North, but New England is slowly creeping up on them.

Mac Jones could be gunning for Purdy’s job.

I love Brock Purdy. I even own a Purdy Damn Relevant sweatshirt! But my man struggles staying healthy and definitely appears to be injury prone. From that elbow thing to his shoulder thing, and I think a hand thing in there at some point, now he’s down with turf toe. He just can’t seem to stay out on the field (to be fair, neither can the rest of the team). Then Mac Jones comes out of no where and WINS (and has two losses, I know, I know). He’s kind of reminding us why New England drafted him to begin with and to be frank, I think if Belichick didn’t ruin the kid’s confidence, he wouldn’t have had that temporary spiral backwards. Mac is completing over 67% of his passes this season, recorded 21 rushing attempts for 34 yards since starting in San Fran. Not too bad, especially considering he isn’t exactly the most athletic quarterback out there. Sure, he has four interceptions under his belt right now, but he also has six touchdowns and 1,404 passing yards. When you have CMC constantly running the ball for you, those other numbers aren’t anything to turn your nose up at. He’s putting in WORK. When Brock does return, he might find himself in a little bit of a competition for his job.
