Lucy Ranks her Top 5 Teams

5. Denver Broncos

Listen, probably another Hot Take in itself, but I was never really a Peyton Manning fan ( I prefer him in commercials) or Drew Lock or Russell Wilson fan. The Broncos just never really did it for me, so the fact that they’re even making the top five kind of blows my mind. Like the Colts. I will say, however, that I am a huge Bo Nix fan and loved what I saw out of him at Oregon. The kid can sling the ball with crazy accuracy, he has a veteran ability to move out of the pocket, and somehow manages to avoid getting sacked as much as some of the other guys. Between his athletic abilities, Sean Payton’s elite ball knowledge, and the power of J.K. Dobbins and R.J. Harvey, their offense is on fire. But let’s not forget about, um what?, the NUMBER TWO ranked defense (per Sportsnaut)? When did that happen? The defense is equally on fire, among the best of the best in total yards allowed, total points allowed, number of sacks. It hardly gets better than that.

4. New England Patriots

Dare I say it feels like the Patriots dynasty slowly making a comeback? After Brady left, it became pretty clear fair fast that he was the face behind their victories, not Bill Belichick (who is further proving he’s not IT over with UNC). They played around, they lost, they destroyed the confidence in some young talent like Mac Jones, and they lost. A lot. Then Drake Maye saunters through the door and suddenly they are so back. Similar to Herbert and Allen, Drake has a pretty solid arm. The kid has an excellent ability to play with an accurate passing game, and mobility…he can RUN when needed. It definitely helps to have vets out there like Stefon Diggs and Hunter Henry scoring every week too. Plus, now rookie TreVeyon Henderson popping off and the 9th ranked defense? The 2025 Patriots have us asking: Brady and Gronk who?

3. Los Angeles Chargers

Last week (maybe the week prior), I expressed that Justin Herbert deserves more love and I’m standing on that. As I mentioned, the Chargers aren’t exactly considered a sexy team. Their coach is a little goofy (and any rivals of the University of Michigan automatically dislike him), Justin can be deemed as injury prone, and they don’t exactly have the best of the best out there. But when you break it down and actually pay attention their game play, you might find yourself surprised. First of all, Justin is elite, I don’t care what you say. His arm power is unheard of (refer to my comment last week: he’s the Josh Allen of the West), his accuracy is on point, and when needed, he’s crazy mobile. Unlike some of the other big names, he doesn’t panic when under pressure either, which is a crucial skill to have. Even TeamRankings.com puts Justin at number 3! Okay now let’s look at the talent Justin is working with out there. We have some skill players in Ladd McConkey, Keenan Allen, and of course, Cameron Dicker (currently ranked #1 for total kicking points on the season). Plus their defense is ranked sixth, even without Joey Bosa.

2. Buffalo Bills

It’s no secret I love me some Bills, but I’m ranking them number 2 bias free. Promise. First and foremost, despite what some think, I believe the team is well coached. I know not many are a huge McDermott fan, but I respect the man and I think not only does he coach with a lot of heart, but also a great deal of knowledge. Now throw in one heck of a quarterback like Josh Allen, who is riddled with incredible arm strength, mobility, and the ability to read the field, and you have yourself a winning team. James Cook, Dalton Kincaid, Keon Coleman, and the 15th ranked defense are nothing to sneeze at either (despite Yahoo! Sports ranking them among the worst over the summer). Now, Buffalo certainly has it’s struggles and isn’t immune to the injury bug, but they’re figuring it out. I mean, if you can beat the Chiefs, you’re doing something right….right? That’s what everyone else says anyway.

1. Indianapolis Colts

I would just about die laughing if a year or so ago you told me that Daniel Jones was going to be absolutely killing it in the NFL. Yet, here we are. And what’s more? I’m selecting him as my number one team as we sit heading into Week 10. Consider my mind blown. Is Danny Dimes the greatest quarterback of all time? Well, not of course not, however is is certainly turning heads. In fact, Jones is currently ranked #8 per ESPN! The guy has undeniable arm talent, an ability to move out of the pocket quickly when needed, and has definitely improved his accuracy. Having some decent weapons out there like Jonathan Taylor, Alex Pierce, and now Sauce Gardner out on defense certainly doesn’t hurt as well.

Lucy, Author

Lucy is a graphic designer, author, and the wizard behind the team’s social content and website. Writing without plot twists or murder isn’t exactly her forte, but she’s made an exception for football — mostly so she can talk trash. A Bengals fan with commitment issues, she also shamelessly follows whatever team has the most talented players — or drama. If you’re a rival fan, just know she probably baited you on purpose.
