Wasted Talent
Justin Jefferson (Vikings)
When Justin Jefferson was drafted to the Vikings in 2020, he had stars in his eyes…and for good reason. He was joining a relatively decent team with a solid QB in Kirk Cousins. Then, Kirk is traded away and while most of the NFL community had zero hope in Sam Darnold to carry the team very far (myself included), he surprised the nation. But, once rookie QB JJ McCarthy was healthy again, KC decided to run with him and let Sam run away to Seattle. How’s that working out for you, Kevin? So far, the Vikings are on a downward spiral. JJ is hurt, again, and last week backup Brosmer didn’t even manage to get into field goal range. Poor Justin is getting fewer and fewer targets (105 on the season), with only six last week. Sitting at 2-8 with a lack luster QB and no hope for the sun to break from the clouds, Justin is just sitting there wasting away in Minnesota.
Ja’Marr Chase (Bengals)
I’ve said it once and I’ll continue saying it until something changes….Ja’Marr needs OUT. I know Bengals fans are on cloud nine now that Burrow is back (for now) and yes, he did squeak out a win on Thanksgiving against the Ravens, but let’s be honest with ourselves: the Bengals are not good. Their $55M a year QB can’t stay healthy and despite Flacco giving it his all, they really don’t have a solid backup. Not to mention, when Joey B is healthy, he tends to rely on their run game…jamming Chase Brown up the middle over and over….or their TEs. He just isn’t getting the targets he deserves. Sure, he’s dropped a few or misjudged the angle, it happens. But you know what else happens? He likes to score when you give him the ball, Zac. So give him the dang ball! Like Ja’Marr says: he’s always f&*$!%@ open!
Maxx Crosby (Raiders)
Ugh, I feel for Maxx. He came from a bum school in college (sorry, Keith) to what theoretically should be a pretty decent NFL team. Except it’s not. When Maxx was drafted to the Raiders in 2019, Derek Carr was their starting QB and he was….meh. The team was holding on as much as they could, often ranked third or last in their division, but it was never enough to get anywhere. After Derek left in 2022, they turned to (oh, God) Jimmy Garoppolo, Aidan O’Connell…then later Gardner Minshew in 2024. Those guys just weren’t it. But now, when they should be popping off with Geno Smith and Pete Carroll, they’re losing. Badly. With the offense unable to move the chains, they’re relying on the defense to hold their opponents back. And they can only do so much. I know Maxx and the Raiders have kind of referred to him as a lifer, but that man needs out of there if he ever wants to be a part of a winning team.
Miles Garrett (Browns)
In a similar situation is Miles Garrett. This guy can EAT on defense, but like Maxx, he’s stuck on a team with an offense that isn’t going anywhere. The Browns just can’t get their QB situation right and this past draft showed it. From drafting Dillion Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders to adding Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco to their QB (don’t forget about Deshaun Watson), they had more than enough to choose from. But then. They let Kenny and Joe and decide to roll with their rookies….okay then. How is that working for you guys? Not well. Once again we have a offense that can’t perform (in this case mostly due to inexperience) and a defense that is out there fighting for their lives to prevent points for their opponents. One side of the ball can only do so much. Sorry, Miles, you too need to move on.
Aaron Glenn (Jets)
What? Lucy, Aaron Glenn is a coach…yes, I’m aware. But coaches can have talent to, so just hear me out. Aaron has one heck of a defensive mind and he proved that was the Lions defensive coordinator before his promotion (was it a promotion though?). He led one of the top ranked defenses in conjunction with Dan Campbell and Ben Johnson’s strong offense aaallll the way to the NFC Championship game in 2023 and the Divisional Round in 2024…not too shabby! Then Ben moved onto the Bears, and is killing it, Aaron joined on as the Jets HC and is….not killing it. Listen after a horrible start, he’s finally getting things on some kind of a track (we’ll see if it’s a good one) and working with what he’s got, but it isn’t much. Their QB situation is buns, key players on offense like Garrett Wilson are out on IR and their defense just can’t seem to get it right. But don’t let that fool you…Aaron Glenn has a creative defensive mind and he deserves so much more than what the Jets can give him.

Lucy, Author
Lucy is a graphic designer, author, and the wizard behind the team’s social content and website. Writing without plot twists or murder isn’t exactly her forte, but she’s made an exception for football — mostly so she can talk trash. A Bengals fan with commitment issues, she also shamelessly follows whatever team has the most talented players — or drama. If you’re a rival fan, just know she probably baited you on purpose.
