Grounded Again: Jets Crash to 0-5 While Fields Keeps Flying in Garbage Time
October 6, 2025
The New York Jets fell to 0-5 in a game that is nowhere near as close as the 37-22 final score indicated. The Jets offense started out hot enough; the Cowboys defense couldn’t contain Breece Hall and it was evident that there would be an opportunity for the ground game to get going. Hall would finish with 113 yards on the ground but it wasn’t as easy as it appeared it would be early on. His costly fumble in the redzone didn’t help make this game any closer either.
Ah, Justin Fields, I’ve always defended you, believed in you when your franchises and fan bases didn’t. Hell, I’m a Michigan fan, there’s no reason for me to pull for you this much. Here it comes, BUT .. I just don’t know what to say anymore. He might have had 70 yards passing in the first half, that might be shooting it high. The offense struggled to get going and the Jets fell so far behind that all passing game production came in garbage time. Fields finished with 283 yards and 2 touchdowns but couldn’t find any room to run, gaining only 26 yards on the ground. The splits this season are terrible, further showing how dependent they are on garbage time to make games closer than they are through the first four weeks:
1st quarter – 114 yards 1 touchdown
4th quarter – 298 yards 3 touchdowns
More?
1st half – 287 yards 1 touchdown
2nd half – 467 yards 3 touchdowns
It isn’t even close. The Jets issue beyond the silly penalties costing them is their inability to come out ready to play. They just aren’t disciplined and cost themselves too much yardage nearly every drive. While I don’t believe this is indicative of coach Glenn as a leader, it does go to show how much of an uphill battle he truly has on his hands.
Not everything was bad today. We saw more production from players not named Garrett Wilson than we’ve seen in some time. Mason Taylor had a nice mini break out and Josh Reynolds had a few clutch chain moving grabs as well. While some progress was shown, I guess, if you squint your eyes and turn your head to the side, next week won’t be any easier in their international matchup against the red hot Broncos. At 0-5, the Jets are running out of excuses — and maybe, just maybe, out of time to turn this around before the season’s lost completely
