Dolphins in Deep Water
September 12, 2025
After a horrific start to the season, one of the biggest questions is, “What happened to the Miami Dolphins?” The roster is beyond talented, with receivers like Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, a new defensive staple in Minkah Fitzpatrick, and a head coach who cares deeply about the team and its players.
But with such big personalities in the room, there is also friction. Hill, a talented receiver, has been a tremendous distraction to Miami; Hill was arrested last year for failing to comply with police, and is facing an investigation into serious domestic violence allegations.
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is a huge playmaker–when he’s healthy. And let’s face it, that ain’t often, as he has dealt with scary concussion-related issues during his time in South Beach.
And then you have Mike McDaniel, the head coach who is quirky, but overstates the obvious sometimes. After the thrashing from the Indianapolis Colts, McDaniel joked about the situation. “I would say the good news and the positive is I don’t see how it could be worse,” said McDaniel. “And I also believe in the coaches and players to get it fixed because it’s just a shame. You work behind the scenes for months on end, and you don’t show any of it — it’s frustrating. But that can be a good thing and that’s what I saw from the positive. Also you could tell as frustrating as it was, the team didn’t splinter and the effort still remained. There’s things there, but overall — I’m not trying to paint a glossy … I’ll call it what it is. It was embarrassing and not anything that paying fans sign up for.”
If Miami can’t pull it together, McDaniel has a very good chance of looking for his next job by Thanksgiving–or earlier.
