Dak’s Arm, Dallas’ Woes
October 27, 2025
The name Dak Prescott has been floated around MVP circles the last few weeks due to his performance, which has been largely done without CeeDee Lamb. He’s been more of an outsider looking in due to the stellar play of some others like Patrick Mahomes, Daniel Jones and Sam Darnold. Who ever thought we’d say some of those names in an MVP race?
A lot of the Dak numbers come from the Cowboys defense leaving him no choice but to throw the ball all game long. In fact, their defensive ranks going into the Broncos game are as follows:
Points Allowed – 30th
Pass Defense – 32nd
Run Defense – 30th
Total Defense 31st
Third-Downs – 32nd
We could keep going but you get the picture. They aren’t getting many take aways either, ranking 23rd in that department. So what we have here is a defense that bleeds points in bunches, can’t create pressure, can’t get off the field, and as a result, leaves their offense in a place to where they need to be near perfect.
Now, to the credit of the offense, they’ve been dang good. Javonte Williams has been running like a man possessed and scored two more times against a stout Broncos defense. Jaydon Blue got a little more run as well which should alleviate some of the beating Williams has been taking. Through the air, they’re ranked 1st or 2nd in all major categories even with the loss of CeeDee Lamb for most of the season. But did we not just see this play out with the Bengals last year? Joe Burrow thew for nearly 5,000 yards with 43 touchdowns. Ja’Marr Chase won the triple crown. And their season still ended in week 18 just like the last place Titans.
Now, the Bengals had a much deeper hole to climb out of than Dallas does now, but the roster constructions are eerily similar. The Cowboys didn’t just lose to the Broncos, they were defeated, they took the belt. It almost felt like losing twice. JK Dobbins had a 100 yard day on the ground. Bo Nix was throwing touchdown passes to guys named Troy Franklin and Pat Bryant. Courtland Sutton can be a handful but that was one to highlight going into the game as a threat.
The Cowboys will now head home to take on a struggling Cardinals team before their week 10 Bye. A win will do this team wonders but we now get a glimpse of what things will look like if this team doesn’t improve or make a move for defensive help prior to the trade deadline. The offense has shown they can sling it with nearly anyone, but the defense will HAVE to provide a stop or two in order to keep things close in the 4th quarter – Especially against teams who have a top defensive unit of their own like Denver.
