Cowboys Hold Off Chiefs as Kansas City’s Playoff Hopes Fade
November 28, 2025
Thanksgiving was a great day for NFC frontrunners and playoff teams, as the Dallas Cowboys came away with the biggest win of the day from a playoff perspective, holding off the Kansas City Chiefs for a 31-28 victory.
The Cowboys consistently found ways to keep the lead after halftime, when they led 17-14. Ceedee Lamb found a way through the Steve Spagnolo defense, with seven catches for 112 yards and a touchdown. However, the biggest catch of the game came from George Pickens on a 3rd-and-2 from the Kansas City 40, just ahead of the two-minute warning. Pickens caught a pass for 13 yards, allowing the Cowboys to go into victory formation. They have now beat the past two teams from last year’s Super Bowl in back-to-back weeks.
For the Kansas City Chiefs, winning out is their nuclear option. Dallas was a game where Kansas City could get ahead, and get two games ahead .500. Despite a dazzling performance from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, where he threw for 261 yards and four touchdowns, the Chiefs just couldn’t make enough plays to get the job done. The Chiefs punted five times, with two three-and-outs in the third and fourth quarters.
With Kansas City behind the eight ball, it is a long road for the Chiefs to even get into the playoffs again. Down a few tiebreakers, it now seems very unlikely the Chiefs are playoff bound. Can they pull it together down the stretch to even make things interesting in the short term? Time will surely tell.
