Colts Keep Galloping

October 21, 2025

One of the biggest and most surprising storylines of the NFL season has been the Indianapolis Colts. With Daniel Jones at the helm, it felt inevitable. The Colts overpaid a struggling Jones, and would be back in the basement before long.

But Jones won the starting job in training camp over Anthony Richardson, and has been a force to be reckoned with ever since. The Colts (6-1) have the best record in the NFL. Jones wasn’t particularly impressive in the victory, going 23-of-34 for 288 yards and two touchdowns. It was the rushing of Jonathon Taylor which carried the day for Indianapolis, as he had 16 carries for 94 yards and three touchdowns.

The Colts overcame a 420 yard passing performance from Justin Herbert, who threw for three touchdowns and two interceptions. The loss knocked the Chargers (4-3) out of first place in the AFC West, leaving the Broncos to take sole possession of the division. Herbert also led the Chargers with 31 rushing yards.

The Chargers right now are too hurt to be able to keep up with the AFC heavyweights. With Najee Harris and Omarion Hampton out for time, Herbert has to carry the team on his back, something he has struggled to do throughout his career thus far.

Meanwhile, the Colts are looking like a legitimate Super Bowl contender for the first time since prime Andrew Luck, which has been a while. They had to suffer through quarterback purgatory since the Luck era, while everyone in their division passed them by. Now, it’s the Colts’ turn to run laps around their opponents. With one of the most talented tight ends in the game at the moment, a run game which is hard to stop, and a quarterback playing as well as you could hope, the Colts are building a core for the future, while teams like Los Angeles are just trying to keep up.
