Clipped Wings in Charm City
September 24, 2025
It had been since 2001 since a Ravens defense had given up a touchdown drive of 95+ yards or more. They allowed it to happen not once, but twice on Monday Night against the Lions. Another crazy stat? Derek Henry has fumbled every week this season. That’s three times on 41 carries. Henry had zero fumbles last season and had three in 2023 on 325 carries. There were certainly some highlights from the game, Mark Andrews appeared very un-guardable for much of the game. He managed to come away with some circus grabs and keep this team in it. But overall, it was a tough night, and you almost couldn’t believe you were watching THE Ravens because they did not look like themselves.
This night was about the Lions defense, sacking Lamar Jackson 7 times, creating timely turnovers. Let’s not forget that the last time these two teams played in 2023, the Lions were absolutely humiliated 38-6 in a blow out. It was clear that any players remaining from that 2023 roster remembered what happened and were seeking to make things right. Both Sonic and Knuckles had a two touchdown night and combined (with 6 yards from Goff) for 224 yards on the ground. It was Detroit football being played in Baltimore, and that’s just not something anyone is used to seeing. Dan Campbell stated something to the likes of that when he had come to Detroit, he wanted to build it like the Ravens. Well, after coming into their home and bullying them around for four quarters, I think it’s safe to say he may have accomplished his mission.
In the end, the Lions didn’t just beat the Ravens—they out-Ravened them. If Baltimore doesn’t regroup fast, nights like this might become less of an outlier and more of a trend. Detroit, on the other hand, just sent a message loud and clear: they’re not chasing anyone’s blueprint anymore—they are the blueprint.
