Burton’s Off-Field Chaos Derails His Potential
December 8, 2025
In 2024, the star WR Jermaine Burton was drafted to the Bengals as what was supposed to be Tee Higgins’ replacement. So far, he’s been a bust.
Unfortunately, Burton was suspended once again in yesterday’s game against the Bills. Burton has suffered from many personal issues for a while and the impact has hurt his professional career tremendously. With an alleged domestic dispute, a fan altercation where he struck a woman that stormed the field after an Alabama game, evictions reportedly from lease violations, team issues, healthy scratches, missed practices…the list goes on and on.
Due to all of his personal issues, fans and the media have turned on the talented wide receiver. He’s being called a manipulator and narcissist; needless to say his journey has been a mess. Outside of his personal issues, however, he was a great WR, hence the reason he was supposed to replace Higgins.
All of these incidents have jeopardized his NFL future despite his high draft status. Many observers suggest he needs significant help and support to manage anger and behavioral issues. The Bengals have acknowledged the situation but kept him on the roster anyway, evaluating the situation while he dealt with personal issues.
Burton posted cryptic messages on social media and later issued a statement asking the media to be truthful, thanking supporters, and stating he’d work hard for the team. He has acknowledged making mistakes and needing to severely control himself. Let’s just hope for his own sake, he does.
