Bo Knows Ball: Nix Is Cooking the League

December 16,, 2025

It’s not an exaggeration that Nix may be the best quarterback of his draft class right now. With all the sophomore quarterbacks (with the exception of Jayden Daniels and JJ “Mean Mug” McCarthy, who have both been injured for much of the 2025 season) succeeding and placing their teams squarely in the playoff conversation, Nix is the most successful one at this point in time. Nix and head coach Sean Payton have continued to trust each other in a way not many coaches do with a second-year player. Nix has full faith in Payton, and vice versa.

Such trust was on full display during the Broncos’ win over the Packers at Mile High, in a matchup of two top defenses, and division-leading teams in an interconference slugfest. Nix went blow for blow against Jordan Love in a game where defenses were largely there for decoration. The game featured over 600 yards of total offense, and elite quarterback play from Love and Nix.

My favorite throw from Nix was on a 4th-and-2. Nix looked for his number one receiver, Cortland Sutton, the whole way, and delivered a pass where only Sutton could go get it. The pass led to a Denver touchdown, and ultimately, the final margin of victory for the Broncos.

That throw was just one of 24 Nix completed on the day. “He really made some plays with his feet, and he made some plays up in the pocket,” said Payton after the game.

Nix stayed humble on his end. “The skill guys they balled today, and the O-line played as good as they’ve played since I’ve been here,” Nix said to the gaggle of reporters postgame. “They kept me completely clean. They battled their butt off. They played with great tempo. They knocked them around as best they could, and I thought our guys responded because of it. We were able to get open, find some completions. Four different guys with a touchdown.”

Nix is now tied for the second-most wins (22) for a quarterback through two seasons, behind only his predecessor, Russell Wilson (24). With three weeks left in the season, it’s not improbable Nix could tie or even break that record.

Nix has gotten his team this far, and in prime position to receive the No. 1 seed in the AFC, after a key Patriots loss to the Bills on Sunday. How far can they go?
