AJ Brown and the Eagles Fly Past Vikings
October 21, 2025
The Eagles (4-2) headed to U.S. Bank Stadium to face off against the Vikings (3-2). With JJ McCarthy out still the Vikings will have to start their veteran backup QB Carson Wentz. With Quinyon Mitchell returning for week 7, the Eagles will have their CB1 lined up to lock up the Vikings star receivers and take down their former quarterback.
Early on, the Eagles slowly chipped away the yards with constant run plays and short passes. They find themselves at a 4th&1 where Hurts and the Eagles use the iconic Tush Push to cross the 1st down marker. The Eagles kept momentum alive by working their way down the field with runs and short passes. AJ Brown burnt his defender and was wide open for the touchdown to open the score board early in the 1st quarter. Needless to say, after minimal targets so far on the season, he was feeling himself.
The Vikings wanted to do the complete opposite. On the second play of their first drive Wentz launched the ball downfield to Jordan Addison for a complete pass moving the chains into Eagles territory. Now the Vikings decide to take it slow, gaining a few yards at a time, inching closer and closer to the endzone. But, off, bad snap, and the ball is over Wentz’s head. He attempts to run and recover it, but fails. The Vikings have to send out the field goal team and Will Reichard nails it for 59 yards. With a little more than 2 minutes left in the 1st quarter the Vikings are able to stop the Eagles and get the ball back with less than a minute remaining, but aren’t able to strike back with a touchdown.
Right off the bat in the 2nd quarter, Carson Wentz makes a horrible passing decision, throws a pick 6, and sends his team spiraling. Multiple incompletions, two offensive holding penalties, incomplete passes, loss of yards, and another interception. While the Eagles come in with high hopes to find the endzone yet again, they can’t seem to do anything right either, and are forced to punt. Minnesota comes back to catch Justin Jefferson down field getting to the red zone. Wentz lobs the ball up to Jefferson in the endzone, but he’s locked up by Cooper DeJean, and immediately throws the ball over Nailor’s head. Oof. But, the very next play, Wentz throws a touchdown pass to Nailor! Unfortunately for them, it’s called back by another offensive holding call which forces them to bring out the field goal unit. The Eagles get the ball back, but are also called for a penalty, and are pushed back for 1st&20. The Vikings are able to keep the Eagles where they were and keep them behind the 1st down marker, forcing the Eagles to punt.
Going into halftime, we can see why Carson Wentz was traded away and personally, I wouldn’t want him as my QB either. It seems like any time he starts for anyone, they ends up a complete mess.
The Vikings receive the ball after half and get into an excellent field position, running with Jordan Mason for a quick first down. The Vikings are back to chipping away at yards with quick passes and 1st down runs with Mason, putting them at the 11 yard line. Wentz gets called for intentional grounding and can’t get the ball downfield, so they’ll send out the field goal unit once again. He can’t seem to do anything right. Then during the kick return there’s an illegal double team that will push the Eagles back again and it feels like a game of yards. Hurts launches the ball downfield to Devonta Smith for a 79-yard passing touchdown. The Vikings get close in the red zone and try to pound it in but are stopped at the 1 yard line, so they run it again with Mason, and get their first touchdown by centimeters. The Eagles return the ball short and get downfield, but the Vikings keep them distant and are forced to kick a field goal that they miss. The Vikings get the ball at the 40 yard line and Wentz catches Jordan Addison in stride to get into Eagles territory. Wentz goes to Addison once again in hopes to get them further downfield. He pitches the ball to Mason, but he gets nowhere and is stopped for a loss of 2. The Eagles are able to bring Wentz down in the backfield and force them to kick another field goal. The Eagles respond by firing downfield this drive and an AJ Brown passing touchdown. Wentz loved showing off his wheels this drive, 20+ rushing yards for 2 first downs. He then throws a touchdown pass that is ruled incomplete which will end in the Vikings drive, being forced to kick a desperation field goal. Hurts finds AJ Brown in the red zone again with 1:30 remaining, which seals the game. Eagles win 28-22 over the Vikings.
This game seemed like it was over by Halftime, but Carson Wentz and the Vikings showed that they don’t let teams walk all over them. While they did lose, the Vikings put up a fight against the defending Super Bowl champs. How will this loss affect them against the Chargers in week 8? Will McCarthy make his comeback, or will we see more of the Carson Wentz mess…I mean talent?
